How do I convert an ODT file to a Microsoft Word file?
Jutoh can export an ODT file suitable for print on demand (POD) services such as Lulu and Amazon's CreateSpace.
If you have not done this before, try using the print on demand wizard, via the menu command Format | Book | Help with Print on Demand in Jutoh 2. In this wizard, you can import page settings from templates that you can download from your print on demand service. Suitable template files can be downloaded from sites such as CreateSpace and Lulu. If they are in Word DOC format, they will need to be saved as DOCX or ODT files before import into Jutoh.
To change settings manually, in your OpenDocument configuration, edit the options Left margin, Right margin, Top margin, and Bottom margin according to the required book margins. Select the correct Paper size or if a suitable size isn't listed, use Custom paper width and Custom paper height.
You will also need to check Mirror margins. Now the left margin value will represent half the total required gutter size.
If you need more refinement, for example different page layout options for different sections, use the Page Layout panel in the Project Properties dialog and also the Page tab in the Book Document Properties dialog. For details, see Creating OpenDocument files for print and PDF in the Jutoh manual.
Once you have compiled your ODT file, you can open it in a suitable word processor such as LibreOffice or Microsoft Word, and make some further adjustments if needed. See also Adding page numbers and a table of contents in OpenOffice/LibreOffice, and Converting a book to PDF .
As well changing page size, margins and headers and footers, you may need to change your content to suit a print book, such as inserting extra sections and page breaks. Fortunately, you can do this using conditional content, dependent on the configuration you're currently compiling with.
Take a look at the file Print Book Sample.jutoh that comes with Jutoh 2. It uses conditional sections to output suitable print-only sections (such as the half-title page).
Say we wish to include the section "Half Title Page" only in the print edition. In the document properties for "Half Title Page", type the tag printonly.
Now edit each of your configurations that isn't an OpenDocument configuration, search for "Exclude sections" and in the "Exclude sections matching tags" option, type printonly.
Now any of the ebook configurations will omit the sections that we have marked as being for print only.
