Fixed layout Kindle book does not adapt properly to portrait and landscape orientations
Since fixed layout pages will be scaled to fit the display of any device, the actual pixel size of the page is not crucial, so long as the aspect ratio is suitable for your content and so long as all pages are the same size. A minimum dimension of 1000 pixels is usually fine.
The images on the page may have greater resolution than the pixels in the page or image object that contains the image. Usually this extra resolution will be used by the viewer where possible, especially for zooming in.
For example, you might choose to create pages that are 1000px wide and 1600px high. If you only have one image per page, you can either set an image for the background, or create an image object that's 1000px by 1600px and fits the page exactly. The resolution of the image itself might be greater, maybe 2000px by 3200px; it will be scaled to fit inside the image object or page.
If you see whitespace on the page around your content in Jutoh (and your book eviewer), this may be deliberate on your part, or it may indicate that you need to match the content to the page size.
If you are creating text objects in your pages, then the larger the page resolution, the more precisely you can place and size text. Although you will be specifying pixel text sizes for fixed layout, not all pixel sizes are available because Jutoh uses points behind the scenes: therefore the larger the page, the greater the number of different text sizes that will be available.
If you book has double-page spreads, you may be wondering whether you need to create pages as double-page spreads in Jutoh, or as individual left and right pages. You can actually work either way, because Jutoh can split or join pages that your edit, according to how you wish to work and also the needs of the target ebook platform. A combination of settings for each page, and for the current configuration, determine how the pages will actually be written to the ebook.
