KB0325: Why are text boxes showing with the wrong font size?

If your text boxes are showing with the wrong font size in viewers (but not in Jutoh), this is because Jutoh has generated all or some of your text boxes with the CSS display: inline-block in order to work around a centre alignment problem in some viewers (such as Adobe Digital Editions). This CSS can also cause the box to size the text relative to the paragraph containing the box, instead of relative to the standard text size.

There are two workarounds to this problem:

  1. In your configuration, set Maximum box words for inline-block to 0 (zero) to suppress the offending CSS for all text boxes.

  2. Or, ensure that the paragraph containing the text box has 12pt text in its paragraph style - this means 'default size' and a text size won't be generated for this paragraph, so it won't combine with the text size within the text box. Don't apply the point size directly to a span of text using formatting tools - instead, edit the paragraph style.

  3. Note that it's best to use 12pt for as much text as possible. Not only does it avoid problems like the above, it also means that the user will see text at the standard size as set by the reader application or device and customised by the consumer.
