If your book is divided into scenes, it may be convenient to have headers for the scenes for the purposes of organising your book, even though you don't want the scene headings to appear in the final book. Plus, it would be handy to see an outline of the scenes as you work.
Here's how you can accomplish this in Jutoh.
Create a new paragraph style for your scene headings, such as "Scene Heading" or perhaps just use "Heading 2" if you are using "Heading 1" for chapter titles. Apply this style to all your scene headings.
In your configuration(s), edit the option Paragraphs to exclude and set it to the name of the style you used for scene headings. This ensures that the scene headings are eliminated in the actual ebook.
To see an outline, click on the Inspector tab in Formatting Palette, and choose Book outline from the drop-down list. If you are using "Heading 1" and "Heading 2" styles in your project, you should see the appropriate headings in outline.
If you didn't see the scene headings in the outline, perhaps because you didn't use "Heading 2" for your scene headings, you will need to tell Jutoh which styles should be used for the outline. Click Edit on the toolbar, then Fields & Numbering, and then Edit Document Outline Style. Change the Level value to the level at which your scene should appear, and set Heading style to the style name you chose previously. Click OK, and OK again, and then Refresh in the Inspector.
As an alternative to step (4), you can use Table of Contents properties to tell Jutoh which styles are headings. This may already be set up if you are using an advanced table of contents and have already told Jutoh how to create the TOC via Format | Book | Build Table of Contents. Or, you can simply set the level for each paragraph style by editing it and specifying Outline level in the Indents & Spacing page.
To see the document outline style method at work, you can open the Heritage Screenplay.jutoh project file via Help | Browse Samples, and show the book outline in the Inspector. The outline style is set up to show section headings, scene summaries, and detailed scene headings in the Inspector.
