KB0075: Can I import footnotes from an existing document?

See also: Working with footnotes and endnotes in the Jutoh manual

Jutoh can import footnotes from Word or ODT, but when importing from HTML, they will be imported using links (not as footnotes) because HTML has no explicit representation for footnotes. However, if you imported HTML from Adobe InDesign, you can use the Format | Book | Formatting Cleanup command and check the option Convert bookmarks to footnotes for content imported from Adobe InDesign. This uses knowledge of InDesign's bookmark naming convention to create footnotes from the relevant bookmarks.

Jutoh has two note modes: footnotes, where the notes appear at the end of each section (not necessarily page), and endnotes, where the notes appear in a separate section. You can switch between modes via Project Properties/Indexes/Footnotes & Endnotes.

In Endnotes mode, Book | Update must be used before compiling to update the endnotes section.

A footnotes can be edited by clicking on the footnote symbol in the text.
