You can insert arbitrary symbols using Format | Insert | Symbols | Symbol, but this can be inconvenient if you have to add symbols frequently, such as fractions or accented characters.
There are two ways Jutoh can help:
Add a custom keyboard shortcut and/or favourite for a symbol. Go to the Favourites tab in the Formatting Palette, and click Edit Favourites. Click Add to add a new symbol shortcut, and type or paste the text you want to insert, or use Insert Symbol to pick a symbol. Give it a keyboard shortcut (this is optional), and check Favourite. Press OK and Close. Now you can use the keyboard shortcut to insert the symbol, or you can double-click the symbol in the Favourites list. For more information, see How to customise keyboard shortcuts and favourites in the Jutoh manual.
Or, use Jutoh's auto-replacement facility. Go to the Auto-Replace page in the Preferences dialog, click Add, and then type the text you will type as a mnemonic for the actual symbol, followed by the replacement symbol. Press Close. Now when you type the text followed by a space or return (or punctuation followed by a space or return), the symbol will be inserted in place of the typed text.
If you want to keep the Favourites tab shown as well as other Formatting Palette tabs, you can drag the Favourites tab to the top, bottom, left or right of the palette to split it. If you have multiple monitors, you can drag the Favourites tab outside of the Jutoh window and place it on a different screen.
