KB0205: How do I fix bookmark not found errors?

You may see missing bookmark errors like these when compiling:

ERROR (Jutoh): bookmark A was not found. The source document was B, and the target document was C.

This means that your document links to another document and specifies a bookmark that is not actually there. Or you may see this:

ERROR (Jutoh): bookmark A was not found (referenced by the navigation map).

This means that a TOC entry, which was created by the command Format | Book | Build Table of Contents or manually, links to a document or bookmark that is not actually there.

If you have recently changed index objects, it's likely to be related to the index. Use Book | Update to update the alphabetical index, and compile again. Similarly, if you deleted documents or bookmarks and have an advanced table of contents, the TOC may be using bookmarks that no longer exist, so update the TOC with Book | Update. You can also view your current TOC entries by clicking on Edit in the toolbar, then on the Indexes page.

If you are compiling an OpenDocument (ODT) file, and the target document is the table of contents, this is because Jutoh will replace the table of contents with a more compatible one that doesn't contain bookmarks. For how to fix it, please see Why are there bookmark errors referencing the table of contents when compiling an ODT file?

Otherwise, you can either add the bookmark back into the document you're linking to, or you can double-click on the error to go to the link in question, then click on it, and correct it.
